Style captions: font, colour, highlight, position
In closed beta · Not yet on sale
With captions on the video, open the Captions rail. Pick a different style from the gallery, or change the font, size, colours, word highlight, outline, shadow and position below it. Save a style you like as a look to reuse it. In a project with scenes, Apply to lets you style just one scene.
Every caption style can be changed after you generate it. Changes apply to the cards straight away and each one can be undone.
Switch to another style
Under Style, click another style. That restyles the cards and rebuilds them for the new style's card size.
Adjust the style
Below the gallery:
- Typography: Font - Helvetica Neue, Avenir Next, Futura, Georgia, American Typewriter or Menlo - Weight, and Size.
- Colour: Text, and Highlight each word as it is spoken with its Highlight colour. Background box puts a box behind the words, with its own Box colour. Word highlighting needs word timing from a transcription made on your Mac.
- Legibility: Outline and Shadow, each with a colour. An outline keeps unboxed captions readable over a busy picture.
- Placement: Alignment, and Position from higher to lower in the frame.
Once you have changed a style, the panel says it has been adjusted away from the style you started from, and offers Reset to preset.
View > Show Safe Areas (⌘') marks the band where captions sit, so you can keep it clear of your face.
Save a look
After you change a style, press Save as a look… in the note that says it has been adjusted, name it, and press Save. It joins Your looks in the gallery, ready for any project. Right-click a look for Rename Look… and Delete Look.
Style one scene differently
In a project divided into scenes, Apply to appears above the gallery. Choose This scene to style only the scene under the playhead, or All scenes for every card. The note under the controls always says which cards a change will reach.
