Free MOV to MP4 converter

Choose a .mov file and save it as an MP4. Most videos from a Mac or an iPhone are copied into the MP4 as they are, which is quick and leaves the quality untouched; anything an MP4 player would not play is re-encoded on this device.

The converter runs entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded, and your video never leaves this device.

Why a MOV sometimes needs converting

A MOV is Apple’s QuickTime container, and screen recordings and iPhone video are saved in it. The picture and sound inside are usually the same H.264 or HEVC and AAC an MP4 uses, but some sites, editors and Windows players only accept the .mp4 container. Moving the same streams into an MP4 fixes that without touching the picture.

Questions about converting to MP4

Is my video uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser on this device. In some browsers the converted file waits in the browser's private storage until you press Save MP4, and it is deleted when you convert another file or come back to the page.
Will the quality change?
Not for H.264 or HEVC video, which is what a Mac and an iPhone record: those streams are copied without re-encoding. Sound that is not already AAC, such as uncompressed audio, is re-encoded to AAC.
Can it convert iPhone video?
Yes. iPhone video is usually HEVC, which is kept as HEVC by default and plays on a Mac, an iPhone and in recent browsers. Tick the H.264 option for a copy that plays on older devices too; that re-encodes the picture and takes longer. It is not offered for HDR video. If a clip also carries a sound track in a format browsers cannot read, that track is left out, the ordinary sound is kept, and the converter says so before it starts.
What about ProRes?
Browsers cannot read ProRes, so the converter refuses it rather than make a broken file. Open the file in QuickTime Player and choose File > Export As to make an H.264 copy instead.
Can it handle a long screen recording?
Yes. The file is read in pieces, so it does not have to fit in memory. In Chrome the MP4 is written straight to the file you choose; in other browsers it waits in the browser's private storage, which needs free disk space about the size of the video. A browser with neither can only hold up to 1.00 GB.
What is not copied?
Only the picture and sound are carried over, with the title and date. Location and device details, timecode and other data tracks are left out.
Which browsers does it work in?
Copying needs no encoder. Re-encoding needs a browser that can encode H.264 and AAC, such as Safari 26 or later or Chrome; where a browser cannot, the converter says so before it starts.
