Alternatives
The best VEED alternatives in 2026, honestly ranked
The best VEED alternative depends on what you used VEED for. For the same thing in another browser tab - subtitles, transcript trimming, templates and a share link - Kapwing is the closest match. For short social videos with templates and effects, for free or cheaply, CapCut. For editing a talking video by its transcript, Descript. For free with no watermark at 1080p, Clipchamp. For a free professional editor that works on your own computer, DaVinci Resolve. Every price below was read from the vendor's own page on the date shown.

VEED is an online video editor: you upload or record in the browser, add subtitles automatically, trim, add text and templates, and export or share a link, with nothing to install. Its pricing page also lists editing with a script, AI tools such as filler-word and silence removal, and a growing set of AI generation features paid for with credits.
Most people looking for an alternative are reacting to the limits and the price. As shown to us in pounds on 30 October 2026 (VEED shows local currency where it can), the free plan exports at 720p and up to 10 minutes with 2GB of storage, Creator is £8 per user a month billed yearly or £20 monthly, and Pro, which adds 4K export, is £15 or £35. Auto subtitles are capped at 10 minutes a month on the free plan. Others are leaving the browser itself: every VEED project lives on VEED's servers, and a long recording has to upload before you can touch it.
A declaration before the list: we make Rooster, a Mac video editor that records the screen and camera. It is in a labelled section at the end rather than in the ranking. Every price links to the page it was read from, with the date. Prices move; if one has, the linked page wins.
1. Kapwing - The same browser-based editing, subtitles and transcript trimming as VEED
Kapwing is the closest like-for-like replacement: a browser editor with automatic subtitles and translation, a Trim with Transcript tool that edits the video by editing its text, silence removal, resizing for each social platform, text to speech and a team workspace. If you liked VEED's way of working and only want a different set of limits, start here.
The limits are of the same kind. The free plan exports at 720p with a watermark, up to 4 minutes per export and 30 minutes a month, with 10 minutes of auto-subtitling. Pro removes the watermark and allows 4K exports up to two hours, and AI features draw on monthly credits. It is a cloud service, so your footage uploads to work on it.
Pros:
- A browser editor with subtitles, translation and transcript trimming
- Resizing and templates for each social platform
- Nothing to install
Cons:
- The free plan watermarks exports and caps them at 4 minutes and 720p
- AI features draw on monthly credits
- Cloud-based, so footage uploads before you can edit it
Pricing: Free (720p, watermark, exports up to 4 minutes, 10 credits); Pro $16 a month billed annually or $24 monthly (1,000 credits a month, 4K, no watermark); Business $50 a month billed annually (4,000 credits); Enterprise on request. (source, checked 30 October 2026).
2. CapCut - Short social videos with templates and effects, free or cheaply
CapCut is the pick if your VEED videos were mostly short clips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. It runs as a desktop app, in the browser and on phones, with a deep library of templates, effects, captions and transitions built for vertical video, and a free tier that covers the basic editing.
Be careful with the free tier. CapCut's pricing page describes it only as basic editing tools and free templates, and says features may vary by region and platform; the premium templates, AI features and 1TB of storage are on Pro. Its Pro plan offers a 7-day free trial, which is the cheap way to find out which side of the line a feature sits.
Pros:
- Templates, effects and captions built for vertical social video
- Desktop, browser and phone apps
- A free tier for basic editing
Cons:
- Which features are free varies by region and platform, on its own account
- AI features and premium templates are on Pro
- Built for short social video rather than long tutorials
Pricing: As shown to us in pounds: Free; Pro £21.99 a month or £199.99 a year (1,200 AI credits a month, 1TB storage); Ultra £58 a month or £669 a year; Teams plans per seat. Pro has a 7-day free trial. (source, checked 30 October 2026).
3. Descript - Editing a talking video by its transcript, with screen recording built in
Descript is the alternative if your VEED videos are mostly people talking - explainers, interviews, podcasts, tutorials - and most of your editing is taking out the stumbles. It transcribes what was said and cuts the video as you delete words, with filler-word removal, captions, screen recording and a share link. Its text editor is the most mature of its kind.
It does not get you away from a meter. Every plan caps media hours and AI credits each month - an hour a month on Free, 10 hours on Hobbyist - and the footage uploads to Descript's cloud, as it does with VEED. It is also less of a social-template tool than VEED or CapCut.
Pros:
- The most mature editor for cutting video by editing its transcript
- Filler-word removal, captions, screen recording and a share link in one tool
- Desktop apps for macOS and Windows as well as the web
Cons:
- Every plan meters media hours and AI credits
- Cloud-based, so footage uploads before you can edit it
- The free plan exports at 720p with a watermark
Pricing: Free (60 media minutes a month, 100 one-off AI credits, 720p watermarked export); Hobbyist $16 a month billed annually or $24 monthly (10 media hours); Creator $24 or $35 (30 hours); Business $50 or $65 (40 hours). (source, checked 30 October 2026).
4. Clipchamp - Free browser editing with 1080p exports and no watermark
Clipchamp is Microsoft's editor, and it is the honest answer to VEED's free-plan limits. The free plan exports up to 1080p without a watermark, records the screen, camera and voice, and has AI video and audio tools, animated text and free stock. Premium adds 4K, premium stock and a brand kit, and is included with Microsoft 365 Personal and Family.
It is simpler than VEED in the places VEED is strongest, subtitle styling and social templates. The online editor needs a personal Microsoft account, and there is a Windows app but no Mac app on its pricing page.
Pros:
- Free, with 1080p exports and no watermark
- Records the screen, camera and voice in the browser
- Premium comes with Microsoft 365 Personal and Family
Cons:
- Fewer subtitle styles and templates than VEED
- Needs a personal Microsoft account
- No Mac app; Mac users work in the browser
Pricing: Free (up to 1080p, no watermark); Premium (4K, premium stock, brand kit) is included with Microsoft 365 Personal and Family. (source, checked 30 October 2026).
5. DaVinci Resolve - A free professional editor that works on your own computer
DaVinci Resolve is for readers leaving VEED because they want the work on their own machine. It is a free professional editor for Mac, Windows and Linux, with colour grading, audio post-production, effects and subtitles, working at up to Ultra HD and 60 frames a second, and nothing uploads. Resolve Studio adds text-based editing and more, for a one-time price.
It is the opposite of VEED in ease. There are no social templates to speak of, the learning curve is steep, and it has no screen recorder, so you record with something else first.
Pros:
- Free, on macOS, Windows and Linux, with your footage on your own disk
- A professional editor with colour, audio and effects in one app
- Studio is a one-time purchase, with text-based editing
Cons:
- A steep learning curve, and few templates
- No screen recorder
- Text-based editing is in the paid Studio version only
Pricing: DaVinci Resolve free; DaVinci Resolve Studio $236 once, shown as reduced from $295. (source, checked 30 October 2026).
And the one we are building
Rooster is a Mac video editor for readers who want VEED's most useful jobs - subtitles, cutting by transcript, removing the ums - without a browser tab or an upload. It records a display or a window with your camera, transcribes the take on your Mac the moment you stop, and lets you cut by deleting words, remove filler words and pauses, caption and export a file. Your footage never uploads unless you deliberately connect a cloud provider, and Rooster does not meter recording, transcription, editing or export.
It is not a VEED replacement in every way, and we would rather say so here. There are no social templates, no AI video generation, no hosting or share link and no team workspace, and it needs a Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 26 or later. Where it fits is the talking video you record yourself and want to finish on your own machine.
We make Rooster, which is why it is in this labelled section rather than the ranking above, and there is a free trial at rooster.cam/pricing.
The specifics of what runs where are on the how it works page, and the meter arithmetic this page keeps referring to is in the Descript pricing breakdown.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free VEED alternative without a watermark?
Yes. Clipchamp's free plan exports up to 1080p without a watermark, in the browser or on Windows. DaVinci Resolve is free on macOS, Windows and Linux and its page mentions no watermark, though it is a professional editor with no screen recorder. Kapwing's and Descript's free plans both watermark their exports, checked 30 October 2026.
What is the closest alternative to VEED?
Kapwing. Like VEED, it is a browser editor with automatic subtitles and translation, editing by transcript, resizing for social platforms and a team workspace, priced per month with AI credits. Its free plan exports at 720p with a watermark, up to 4 minutes per export.
Is there a VEED alternative that works offline?
Yes, desktop editors. DaVinci Resolve is free on macOS, Windows and Linux and keeps your footage on your own disk. CapCut and Descript have desktop apps but are cloud-connected services. VEED, Kapwing and Clipchamp's online editor all run in the browser.
Does VEED edit video by its transcript?
VEED's pricing page lists editing with a script, alongside automatic subtitles, filler-word removal and silence removal. Among the alternatives here, Kapwing trims video by its transcript, Descript is built around it, and DaVinci Resolve offers text-based editing in its paid Studio version.
Why trust this list
It is written by the Rooster team, and we declared our interest before the ranking: we are building a competitor in this category. The assessments were read from each vendor's own pages on 30 October 2026 rather than from using every tool, every price links to the vendor page it was read from with the date we checked it, and the products we compete with most directly are ranked on their merits - including above the one we are building, which is not ranked at all, because we make it.
