Rooster 0.9.1
- version 0.9.1, build 13
The project list opens at its proper width on a Mac that has never run Rooster. In 0.9.0 it could open too narrow on a first launch, with "New project" broken across several lines.
Releases
Every Rooster build published so far, newest first, with the notes the app shows when it offers the update.
Rooster is in beta, and these are early builds, and each one is unfinished software. They go to beta testers - apply to test it free. If something in one is not working, tell us.

- version 0.9.0, build 12
The first beta build. A month of work since 0.8.1, and the version testers start on.
Editing the script: put a scene break anywhere with "/", choose a scene from its square in the script, and join scenes with a cross dissolve. Correct mode lets you type a fix into the transcript without touching the video, and a glossary respells names in every new transcript.
Improve this video looks through a recording for words said twice and false starts, and lists every cut it would make for you to review before anything changes. Studio Sound is part of the same step.
On the timeline and canvas: select several clips with a band and delete them together, change a layer's order from the canvas toolbar or a right-click, give a range of words its own volume, and apply a caption style to one scene or to all of them. Blur Background is an effect of its own.
Recording keeps more of what you meant to keep: a take cut off by a crash is recovered at the next launch, a camera take that fails says why, and the teleprompter and camera bubble stay on screen when you switch to another app.
Projects can go in folders, search reads transcripts, and with Apple Intelligence on, the Export sheet offers a description and timestamped chapters for wherever you publish. Help opens the help centre at rooster.cam/help, and feedback sent from the title bar can carry an image you attach.
- version 0.8.1, build 10
The first Rooster that updates itself. If you are reading this inside Rooster rather than on a web page, that is the change: 0.8.0 found this release on its own, checked our signature on it, and offered it to you.
Nothing else is different. 0.8.1 is 0.8.0 with a version number one higher, published so that the update path could be proved end to end rather than assumed - which is a thing that had never been done, on a rail where the updater is the only route to anybody who already has a copy.
- version 0.8.0, build 9
The first Rooster you can download and open. Everything below already worked; what is new is that it now reaches a Mac that is not the one it was built on.
Record, or import what you already have, and Rooster transcribes it on your machine - no account, no upload, no key. Cut the transcript and the video is cut with it. Add captions, cover a passage with B-roll, and export H.264 or HEVC to Downloads.
Studio Sound, Eye Contact and Green Screen run locally, on your Mac. Nothing you record or import leaves it unless you deliberately connect a cloud provider and ask it to.
This is early software under active development, and it is not finished. There is no licence to buy yet and nothing to pay. Rooster now knows how to update itself, which is what this release is really for: the next fix reaches you without another download.
