Find and preview media in the Media rail
In beta · Apply to test it free
Open the Media section of the rail on the right. It lists every video, image and audio file in the project, with a search field and filters. Click a file to preview it and place it: as a layer, over selected words, on the Music lane or into the main recording. Remove from Project takes out unused files.
Open it
Click Media in the strip down the right edge of the editor. The heading says how many files the project holds.
- Add adds videos, images or audio files.
- Generate makes a B-roll clip with your own fal.ai key. See Generate B-roll with your own fal.ai key.
- You can also drop files onto the rail.
Find a file
Type in Search media to match file names, and use the menu beside it, which reads All, to list only Video, Images, Audio, files that are Used on the timeline, or Unused ones. A small grey dot marks a file the timeline does not use. The button beside them switches between a grid and a list.
Preview and place a file
Click a file to preview it. The preview says where the file is used on the timeline, and for a file Rooster made, which file it was made from. Below it:
- Add as new layer for a video or image, across the scene at the playhead - a video goes on the B-roll lane - or Add on the Music lane for audio, at the playhead.
- Cover the selected words - or Play under the selected words for audio - over the words selected in the script.
- Add to the main recording, as a second take, when the file can be one.
Back, or Escape, returns to the list. You can also drag a file straight onto the timeline.
Remove a file
Right-click a file, or press its … button, and choose Remove from Project. The file leaves the project; the file itself stays on your Mac.
Rooster will not remove a file the timeline still uses - take its clips off the timeline first - or the original another file was made from, such as the recording a Studio Sound version came from.
