Clean up voice audio with Studio Voice
Choose Enhance, then Studio Voice…, or press Studio Voice in the Enhance rail. Pick a restoration strength, press Generate Studio Voice, and compare the result with the original. Press Use enhanced version to keep it. It runs on your Mac and never changes your original file.
Studio Voice separates your voice from the room it was recorded in: fans, traffic, echo, microphone hiss. It runs on your Mac, and it makes a cleaned copy rather than changing your recording, so you can always go back.
Apply it
- Choose Enhance > Studio Voice…, or open the Enhance rail and press Studio Voice.
- Choose a Restoration strength:
- Natural keeps more of the room's character.
- Balanced is a clean, natural default.
- Strong is for fans, traffic and difficult rooms.
- Leave Voice polish on to tighten low rumble and add a little presence to speech, or turn it off.
- Press Generate Studio Voice. A long recording can take several minutes; the sheet shows progress, and Stop cancels.
- Compare: press Original and Studio Voice to hear each.
- Press Use enhanced version, or Try different settings to throw the result away and start again.
Studio Voice works on the whole main recording, every take of it, with the same settings. It works on audio-only projects too.
The strength and voice polish the sheet opens with come from Settings > Audio, under Default strength and Voice polish by default.
What it is good at
It is built for speech. Music, and heavily mixed audio from your Mac, can come out sounding unnatural - which is one reason Rooster always makes a separate copy instead of overwriting anything.
Change or remove it
Select the main recording and open Adjust. The Audio effects band lists Studio Voice once it is applied, with a button to adjust it - which reopens the sheet - and a bin to remove it. Removing it puts back the version underneath - your original, unless another effect was applied first. If another effect was rendered on top of Studio Voice afterwards, remove that one first; Rooster says so. Before it is applied, the band's + opens the Studio Voice sheet.
The cleaned copy is kept in Rooster's own folder, as a rendered clip. See Where Rooster saves recordings and exports.
