Where Rooster saves recordings and exports

In closed beta · Not yet on sale

Rooster keeps your media as ordinary files on your Mac, in places you can open in Finder. Nothing is stored in an account, because there is no account.

Recordings

Every take is saved to Downloads > Rooster. Rooster makes the folder the first time you record.

Each take's file is named with the day and time it was recorded. If a name is already taken, Rooster adds a number rather than replace the file.

To save takes somewhere else, open the recorder, press its gear button (Recorder settings), and press Choose… beside the folder. The choice is not permanent: the next time you open Rooster, takes go to Downloads > Rooster again.

A take that a crash cut short is recovered to the same folder the next time Rooster opens.

Exports

An export goes wherever you choose. The save panel opens in your Downloads folder with the project's name filled in, and macOS asks before it replaces a file with the same name. When the export finishes, Show in Finder takes you to it. See Export a video.

Files you import

Rooster does not copy or move a file you import. It reads it where it is and leaves it unchanged, and the project remembers where to find it. Keep imported files where they are while you are still editing the project.

What Rooster keeps in its own folder

Your Project library, the Speech model, and things Rooster can make again - Rendered clips, Thumbnails and Audio measurements - live in Rooster's own folder, which Finder hides. To see where it is and how much space each takes, open Settings and choose Storage. The page is headed What Rooster keeps in its own folder and shows the folder's path, which you can copy into Finder's Go to Folder.

Recordings and exports are not counted there, because they are in the folders above.
