What the converter changes

SRT and WebVTT describe the same basic thing: when a caption appears, when it disappears and what it says. The converter reads those cues and rewrites their timestamps and structure for the other format. It keeps the wording and timing, and flags malformed or overlapping cues rather than silently inventing a repair.

This is a subtitle-file utility, not a video editor. It does not transcribe, translate, retime or burn captions into a video. Rooster’s planned caption workflow is described on the captions page. Rooster is in active development and not released.
