Read from the teleprompter while you record

In closed beta · Not yet on sale

Rooster's teleprompter is part of its recorder, so you can read a script while you record in any mode - camera, screen, both, or audio only.

Open it

Open the recorder, then press Teleprompter, the button with lines of text on it. The teleprompter opens in a window of its own, which you can move to wherever your eyes need to be - next to the camera, or on another display. Press the button again to hide it.

Add your script

  • Paste or type into the teleprompter window, or
  • press import a file to load a text or Markdown file.

The script is saved with the project, so it is there the next time you record into it. It is separate from the project's transcript: editing one does not change the other.

Set it up

ControlWhat it does
Type sizeFrom 24 to 72 points
Reading rateFrom 100 to 250 words a minute; 150 to begin with
Play and PauseStart and stop scrolling by hand
Rewind to startBack to the top of the script

The gear, Teleprompter settings, holds the rest:

  • Auto-scroll when recording begins, on to begin with.
  • Dim lines away from the marker, so the line to read stands out while it scrolls.
  • Mirror horizontally and Flip vertically, for a teleprompter mirror.
  • Dark theme, on to begin with.
  • Show teleprompter in recording, off to begin with. It matters only when you record your screen: Rooster keeps its own windows out of a screen recording, and this lets the teleprompter in.

Your size, rate and these settings last until you quit Rooster.

Record with it

Press record as usual. With Auto-scroll when recording begins on, the script starts scrolling when the take does and pauses when it ends. The teleprompter scrolls at the rate you set; it does not listen to you or follow your place.

During a camera or audio take, the teleprompter does not take the keyboard, so Space still stops the recording. During a screen recording, the Teleprompter button cannot be pressed: open the teleprompter before you start.

Press Done to close it.
