Record audio only, for a podcast or voiceover
In closed beta · Not yet on sale
Open the recorder and choose Audio only. Pick your microphone from its chip, watch the level bars as you speak, and press Space to start and stop. The take is saved as an .m4a file, added to your project and transcribed, so you edit it by its words like a video.
Audio only records your microphone and nothing else. Use it for a podcast, a voiceover or narration you will lay over other footage. The transcript works exactly as it does for video: cut words from the script to cut them from the recording.
Record
- Choose File > Record > Audio only. With no project open, Rooster makes an empty one first.
- The recorder opens at the foot of the editor. Click the microphone chip to choose a microphone.
- Speak, and watch the level: the microphone chip carries a level bar, and the canvas draws bars where a picture would be.
- Press the record button or Space (Space) to start, and again to stop.
Rooster refuses to start with no microphone chosen, and says so.
What you get
- The take is saved as an
.m4afile in Downloads > Rooster, unless you chose another folder. - It is added to the project at the playhead, or becomes the project's recording if the project was empty.
- It is transcribed when it finishes, as long as Transcribe when recording ends is on.
The recorder's settings are shorter for audio: there is no picture, so Format, Quality and the screen options are not shown. Countdown, the folder and the transcription switch remain.
Read from a script
The teleprompter works in Audio only too, which helps with a scripted voiceover. See Read from the teleprompter while you record.
