Play, scrub and change playback speed
In closed beta · Not yet on sale
Press Command-S to play and pause from anywhere in Rooster, or Space when the timeline has focus. Drag the scrubber under the video or click the timeline's ruler to move the playhead, click a word to jump to it, and use Playback speed to watch at 0.5x to 2x. Speed never changes the export.
Play and pause
- View > Play/Pause, ⌘S, works wherever you are in the editor, including while you type in Correct mode.
- Space plays and pauses when the timeline has focus, or in the project list. In the script, Space does not play.
- The play button in the row under the video.
Move the playhead
- Drag the scrubber, the bar right under the video.
- Click or drag the timeline's ruler.
- Click a word in the script to jump to the moment it was said.
- Click a clip on the timeline to jump to that point in it.
- Use the back 5 seconds and forward 5 seconds buttons beside play.
To play from a particular word, right-click it and choose Play from here.
The time on the left of the row is where the playhead is; the time on the right is the project's length.
Change playback speed
Click Playback speed beside the play button and choose 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x or 2x.
This only changes how fast you watch while editing. It is not saved with the project and it does not affect the export. To make part of the video itself faster or slower, select a B-roll or music clip and use Speed in Adjust; the main recording always plays at the speed it was recorded.
