Connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to Rooster
Open Rooster's Settings, choose AI Apps and press Connect beside the AI app you use, or Copy Command for Claude Code. That turns the switch on. Keep Rooster open while the AI app works: each edit lands at once in the open project, and Undo in the Edit menu takes it back.
An AI app you already use can work on your Rooster projects: read the transcript, remove filler words, add zooms, captions and titles, save a frame or export the video. Rooster stays the editor - every change lands in the open project, and you can undo it.
Connect an AI app
- Choose Rooster > Settings and choose AI Apps.
- Beside the app you use, press Connect, or Copy Command for Claude Code. This also turns on Let AI apps use Rooster.
- Finish in the AI app:
- Claude: install Rooster in the window Claude opens.
- Cursor: install it in the window Cursor opens.
- Claude Code: paste the copied command in Terminal and press Return.
- ChatGPT and Codex: choose the .codex folder in your home folder when Rooster asks, then quit and reopen ChatGPT or Codex.
Then ask the AI app, for example: "In my Rooster project Launch video, remove the filler words and add captions."
While it works
- Rooster has to be open. If it isn't, the AI app is told to open Rooster first.
- Each edit is one undo step, named for what it did, so Edit > Undo takes it back.
- Edits that cut, like removing filler words, are marked as changes that cut, so an AI app that asks before changes like these asks you first.
- Frames and exports go to Downloads and never replace a file that is already there.
- Settings > AI Apps shows which AI apps are connected right now.
Keep a project out
Right-click a project in the sidebar and choose Keep Out of AI Apps. AI apps can't see or change it until you turn that off.
What leaves your Mac
Rooster uploads nothing for it. The AI app reads your project's words and frames on this Mac, and what it sends to its own service is between you and that app. To stop it, turn off Let AI apps use Rooster.
If Rooster moved
AI apps run a part of Rooster by where Rooster is. If you move Rooster, the row says so: press Connect again. Move Rooster to your Applications folder before you connect: a copy macOS is still running from where it was downloaded can't be connected.
