What happened to Blur Region
Rooster no longer offers Blur Region, so it cannot hide a password, an API key or an email address on a screen recording by blurring it. A region blurred in an older project still draws and exports as before. To keep something off the video, cut the stretch where it shows.
Until 29 October 2026 Rooster offered Blur Region, which blurred a rectangle of the picture to hide an API key, a password or an email address on a screen recording. It is gone from the canvas toolbar's Effects menu and from the Adjust rail, and Rooster no longer blurs part of the picture.
A blur in an older project
A project you blurred before keeps its regions, and they play and export blurred as before, so nothing you hid is shown. To change one:
- Click the clip on the canvas or the timeline.
- Drag the blurred region on the canvas to move it, or one of its handles to resize it.
- To take it off, select it and press Delete, or press the bin beside it under Highlights in Adjust. The clip stays.
Keep something off the video
To keep a password or an email address out of the export, cut the part of the recording where it is on screen: select the words spoken over it in the script and delete them. Before you record, close what you would rather not show.
To point the viewer at part of the picture instead, see highlight part of the picture.
